About the Teacher

Laura Ballinger fell in love with dance at a young age. Whether it was calisthenics or simply dancing around the house, movement made a home in Laura’s heart. After injuries made it impossible to continue calisthenics, Laura discovered joy in teaching and choreographing dance items at the school where she taught. Not knowing where this passion would lead, Laura felt God’s calling to conclude her time as a primary school teacher and pursue the mission field instead.

In early 2017 Laura volunteered at a Youth With A Mission (YWAM) base in New Zealand, caring for children of YWAM service members. From there she boarded the Logos Hope, an international ship ministry with Operation Mobilization (OM), serving port communities on islands off the North Atlantic for 3.5 months.

Through connections made with OM, Laura was invited to a month-long dance ministry intensive run by OM Dancelink in Atlanta, Georgia in the U.S. Throughout her time there, Laura learned how to combine her love for dance with her love for God. Laura was invited to stay in Atlanta and accepted an internship with Compass Dance Academy (affiliated with OM Arts) for their 2017/2018 school year.

As an intern, Laura took a variety of dance classes to learn new styles and techniques, as well as assist in teaching a number of classes. Towards the end of the school year, Laura led bible studies and dance worship classes for young girls and disabled dancers and was able to see God work in incredible ways.

Upon returning to Australia in July 2018, Laura felt God calling her to trial a Christ-centered dance program during school holidays that combined dance, worship, bible study, crafts and other fun activities. This two-week program confirmed God’s direction for Laura.

Heart of Grace is the ministry God was preparing and equipping Laura for. Her passion for movement, heart for young girls, and love for Christ have come together like a beautifully choreographed dance – a dance only God could have designed.
